Garbage Rate Increase

Garbage.png

Due to Grant County Landfill cost increases from $28.80 per ton to $49.33 per ton, the City of Soap Lake’s garbage disposal cost will increase by about $1,600 per month. In order to maintain a balanced budget, these increased costs need to be offset by increased revenues from garbage collection fees. The City’s fees were last updated at the end of 2016. Beginning with the April 2021 billing, garbage rates will reflect this increased cost. Click on this link for the new garbage rates.

It is understood another cost increase during these times, in addition to recent sewer and water cost increases, puts stress on personal finances. The City Council and staff will continue to explore options for the City’s garbage services and want to remind seniors, over age 65 and living in a single family residence, that there is the option for every other week garbage pickup to save some money.

Reduce, Re-Use, and Recycle what you can.

Grant County has some tips that can help reduce garbage output which can lead to needing a smaller bin and save some money. See this brochure for local recycling opportunities.

In an effort to reduce your garbage, follow all City codes and laws:

  • Do NOT store garbage on your property or in your home, as this is a health and safety hazard for yourself and for the community.

  • Do NOT dump garbage, construction debris, or yard waste on any public or private property.

  • Do NOT burn garbage.
