As the end of summer approaches, we are seeing an abundance of noxious weeds throughout the city. Weed control is required by the property owner per several City Ordinances; 8.24.130 and 8.21.090 specifically, explain. If you are a property owner or are renting property in the City of Soap Lake, please be sure you are controlling the weeds on your property.
8.24.130 Removal of vegetation or debris causing fire hazard.
The owner of property within the city is required to remove or destroy all grass, weeds, shrubs, bushes, plants, trees or vegetation growing, or which has grown and died, and to remove or destroy all debris, which are a fire hazard or a menace to public health, safety or welfare. Any resident on or owner of real property in the city who fails to remove vegetation or debris causing a fire hazard shall be subject to a penalty.
8.21.090 Unlawful materials in alleys.
A. It is unlawful for a person, firm, or corporation to deposit any debris, vegetation, lawn clippings, lumber piles, wood piles, auto parts or bodies, garbage, and the like, or store any material of any kind except approved garbage or refuse containers in the alleys of the city. Abutting property owners shall be responsible for the control of vegetation within alleys.
B. The materials referred to in subsection (A) of this section shall be removed by the depositor. Failure to remove the materials within five days shall be an additional infraction and it shall be considered an additional infraction for each five-day period that a party fails to remove the material after having been notified of its existence.
